1930. When 14-year-old Veronica realises that her father is reluctant for her to have facial surgery to correct her cleft lip and palate, she runs away to her Uncle Morrie and Aunt Kitty in Dublin. In their care she blossoms, physically and emotionally, as she eagerly awaits the surgery that will begin her life.
